zenodo-mcp: A Model Context Protocol Server for the Zenodo Open-Research Repository
Technical report (Zenodo), 2026. doi:10.5281/zenodo.20024307
Abstract
We present zenodo-mcp , an open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that exposes Zenodo, CERN's general-purpose open-research repository, to language-model agents. While existing scholarly-metadata MCP servers surface descriptions of research, Zenodo is where the artifacts themselves live: datasets, software releases, and supplementary materials, each permanently citable via DOI and most under open licenses. zenodo-mcp provides eight tools spanning record search, DOI resolution, version-history walking, file enumeration, and community queries. The package is available as pip install zenodo-mcp at github.com/OpenCodice-Research/zenodo-mcp . OpenCódice Technical Report OC-TR-2026-011.
