orcid-mcp: A Model Context Protocol Server for the ORCID Researcher Registry, with Heuristic Author Disambiguation
Technical report (Zenodo), 2026. doi:10.5281/zenodo.20024303
Abstract
We present orcid-mcp , an open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that exposes the ORCID public registry to language-model agents. ORCID is the canonical 16-digit researcher identifier, covering more than 20 million researchers and underpinning author-disambiguation workflows across publishers, funders, and most scholarly indexes, yet not exposed to LLM agents through any existing MCP server. orcid-mcp closes the gap with seven tools, including a heuristic disambiguation tool that ranks candidate ORCID iDs for an ambiguous name plus an affiliation hint. The package is available as pip install orcid-mcp at github.com/OpenCodice-Research/orcid-mcp . OpenCódice Technical Report OC-TR-2026-009.
